If you want healthier-looking skin or thicker hair without surgery or synthetic fillers, PRP (platelet-rich plasma) and PRF (platelet-rich fibrin) are the “use what you’ve got” solutions. A quick blood draw, on-site processing, targeted injections or microneedling, and your own growth factors do the heavy lifting over the next few months.
What this is (and what it isn’t)
- PRP injections are highly concentrated platelets spun from your blood and placed where repair is needed: fine lines, under-eyes, acne scars, or thinning hair.
- PRF injections take it further: a slower spin traps more fibrin and leukocytes, creating a natural scaffold that holds growth factors longer. Translation: more sustained release, often fewer sessions.
- This is not a “walk out looking ten years younger today” service. It’s steady, believable improvement: skin that looks healthier in natural light and hair that thickens gradually.
Who performs it (and why it matters)
Care is directed by Michael Woo-Ming, MD, MPH, our resident physician. Mayo Clinic trained in Family Medicine, with an MD from Wayne State and an MPH from the University of Michigan, he has treated Southern California patients since 1999. You’ll get a candid plan, sterile technique, and dosing that respects both safety and outcomes. No salon shortcuts. No mystery cocktails.
Use-cases we see most
- PRP facial treatment in Spring Valley for texture, tone, pores, acne scarring and an overall healthier-skin look.
- PRF under-eye to soften crepeiness and shadowing without filler heaviness.
- PRP hair restoration in Spring Valley when shedding or density is the issue (men and women).
- Surgical-scar and stretch-mark refinement to blend edges and boost collagen where the skin needs a nudge.
Session flow (so there are no surprises)
- Consult and photos. We map targets in good, even light so progress is obvious later.
- Draw and spin. A small blood draw; PRP spins fast, PRF spins slower to preserve fibrin.
- Numb and treat. Injections for under-eyes, lines and scars; microneedling for full-face texture; micro-droplet placement for hair.
- Out the door. Pink for a day, maybe two. Hair patients can usually shampoo the next morning.
- Build phase. Collagen and follicles respond over weeks, not hours.
Real-world timeline
Pink fades; skin feels springier; scalp less tender.
Skin looks more even in daylight; shedding slows for hair patients.
Texture, pore size and under-eye quality improve; early hair thickening shows.
Density and durability build; results read as “you look rested,” not “what did you do?”
PRP vs. PRF, in plain English
- PRP: higher platelet concentration, faster release. Great for broad texture work and early hair turns.
- PRF: platelet plus fibrin matrix, slower release, sticks around where we place it. Excellent under the eyes and for people who want fewer visits.
We often start with PRF for the tear troughs and PRP for global face or scalp, then tune based on your response.
How many sessions?
- Skin: 3 sessions, 4 to 6 weeks apart, then 1 to 2 maintenance visits per year.
- Hair: a series of 3 spaced 4 to 6 weeks, then maintenance every 4 to 6 months.
Need more or less? We’ll tailor it. Some people graduate faster when sleep, protein and iron levels cooperate.
Safety, sourcing and the “what’s in this?” question
It’s your blood. We use FDA-cleared kits and sterile technique. No dyes, no fillers, no cross-linkers. If we add anything (like topical anesthetic), you’ll know exactly what and why. Photos happen in the same lighting each visit so changes are obvious without filters.
Pairing with other care
- Weight and hormones: better collagen and hair outcomes track with good protein intake, iron, thyroid and sex-hormone balance. We check what matters.
- Age management: sleep and recovery make a visible difference.
- Laser hair removal: a separate service; we schedule around it so skin isn’t irritated.
- GLP-1 therapy and medically supervised weight loss: if you’re losing fat quickly, we time PRP/PRF so skin quality keeps up.
Candid expectations
- Skin: expect glow and quality before “wow.” The wow comes with consistency.
- Under-eyes: smoother, less hollow, never “overfilled.”
- Hair: slower shedding first, then early thickening at 3 to 4 months, best density by 6 to 12.
- Scars: softer edges and better blend; we’ll be realistic about deep or tethered scars.
If you’re after instant volume or a major lift, we’ll tell you when PRP/PRF isn’t the right tool and point you to options that are. We quote the series, the maintenance plan and any lab work up front. No bundled upsells, no surprise add-ons.
